After hearing about some problems with 16-bit color I thought I'd do some experimentation, because I could remember some of these modules working under 16-bit color in the past. Hopefully what I found might be semi useful for helping narrow down what is wrong...
xLabel has very little obvious problems with 16-bit color; nothing show-stopping. SolidColors work great. Magic Pink doesn't seem to work with images.
xPopup has no version working properly, with both icons and solidcolors becoming just white and black. I have not tried it with images instead of solidcolors yet; I'll try it later and report it here if it's any different.
xTaskbar... here's the odd one. At 1.0.6 and before, everything seems to work fine, unless you have no main bar image and want transparency, then you have buttons on top of pink. At version 1.1 and later, icons STOP displaying properly (they worked before!). At 1.1.8 the colors completely fail as well and everything is either black or white... even the pink taskbar background becomes white!
So... my point? Maybe you can use this info to find out what's wrong with at least one of the modules. Icons were working under xTaskbar at some point so maybe that might help with xPopup? Both xPopup and xTaskbar show the same solidcolor problems now so maybe they are connected? But maybe your new paint method is faster but just doesn't work with 16-bit. [I'd rather the faster!]
I hope you can get xTaskbar working again under 16-bit color; from the symptoms it looks to me like it'd be not too hard, at least easier than xPopup. But hey I'm not the module programmer (I know only regular C++ programs), so who am I to say what is easy.
Andymon, do not spend too much time stuck on this problem. In the case of xPopup especially, I'd far rather the current speed and power more than 16-bit support... for those old computers that can't go higher, there's already popup2.

Thanks a lot for your GREAT work guis , xmodules are transforming the Litestep shell in a much more fancy/varsatile thing.

>Andymon - woot!
>GothsSecret - If necessary, you could probably reduce the gaps between the center and the sides, for those with lower resolutions (not me, I'm at 1280x1024!).

Just wanna tell:
HighColor(16bit) is coming for all xModules in the near future, finally.

hehe, now I like it too, I wassn't sure if it'll look good if we put a second menu right handed but now it's ok, so no need for a complete change anymore

Hello everyone!
This layout is just fine, don't get why you want to change it?!
