Carruth played four years with Colorado before becoming the 27th pick in the 1997 NFL Draft. He spent only three years in the NFL where he caught 62 passes for 804 yards and 4 touchdowns for the Carolina Panthers.
His career was cut short after he was found guilty of conspiring to murder his pregnant girlfriend in 1999. Carruth stopped his car in front of girlfriend’s and had hired a man to drive beside her and shoot into the car. He was convicted in 2001 and served 18 years and 11 months in prison. He was released on October 22, 2018.
